L2: Inference made but not supported with any evidence.[2-3m]

(Award 2m for 1 point and 3m for 2 points.)

L3: Inference supported and explained with cross reference to contextual knowledge. [4-5m]

As seen from Source A, I can infer that life in Singapore was harsh and poor as seen from the picture in the source, it shows a baby boy left in the middle of nowhere, without his parents and is in the state of crying. This shows that when the Japanese launched their attack on Singapore, many closed ones and relatives were killed, leaving their children as orphans and at a loss, not knowing what to do as they are young. Therefore, life in Singapore during the japanese occupation was terrible and people were suffering.

In addition, from Source A, I can also infer that life under Japanese rule was full of atrocity as the houses surrounding the baby boy are destroyed and in poor condition, and also the place full of broken pieces. This shows that the houses were damaged and not suitable for the people to live in, people were homeless and had no where to go, or even families being burned in the houses together. Thus, the Japanese has caused life in Singapore during the occupation to be meaningless and horrible.

This is consistent with my contextual knowledge that the Japanese occupation caused lots of lives being lost and homes being shattered, resulting in the harsh lives people face.

[Award 4m for 1 point and 5m for 2 points]
